Frequently Asked Questions

How are payments handled?

All projects require a 50% deposit with the remainder due upon client review and acceptance. All terms will be agreed upon in writing prior to starting a project.

Projects are charged at a flat rate based upon the scope of work.

Monthly website maintenance plans are charged in full at the start of service and recur monthly (or annually if desired) until a request for cancellation is submitted.

All major debit & credit cards and PayPal are accepted. Depending on which method you choose, payments are securely processed via Stripe or PayPal.

What is SEO and why is it so important?

SEO (short for Search Engine Optimization) is a process used to ensure that your website is found by potential clients, customers or followers. Consider it the foundation of any successful website because it's vital to your organic search ranking, that is, which page your website appears on in a Google search without paying for ad placement. You want your website to live ideally at or near the top of page one, but you don't want to live on page two or lower. Depending on factors such as your industry, competition and age of your site, this can take a lot of work up front, but the payoff can be massive--if you have something valuable to offer.

Proper website optimization consists of a few critical elements including (but not limited to):

  • Keyword research and placement

  • Relevant, useful content

  • On and off-site link building

  • Image optimization

Many business skimp or skip on SEO because the results often aren't immediate. Proper SEO implementation is a long-term strategy which is far more cost-effective than spending money on pay-per-click ads.

What's the difference?

With a solid SEO strategy in place, your clients, customers and followers will always be able to find your website during a search regardless of what happens in the paid advertising space. If you base your marketing solely on ad campaigns, you can easily be outbid by any competitor with a larger budget at any time.

After working so hard to create value in your marketplace, why leave the visibility of your website to a game of chance?

Should I use Squarespace or Wordpress?

This depends on your situation.

We recommend Squarespace if you fit the following criteria:

  • You want a very simple website that requires little to no custom code

  • You don't need unique plugins

  • You're not very tech savvy, but you want something very easy to manage

  • You're not worried about certain styling or functionality restrictions

We recommend Wordpress if you fit the following criteria:

  • You're very comfortable with tech (not a necessity as Wordpress isn't difficult)

  • You need very specific plugins, and you know why you need them

  • If custom coding is required, you're all for it

  • You favor flexibility above ease of use

This is only a brief guideline based on experience with both platforms. Ultimately, you may choose whichever platform you feel most comfortable with, and we'll address possible issues upfront.

How long to projects typically take?

The timeline is different for every client and project. Since I value quality over quantity, I'll never be in the business of pumping out mediocre work for increased revenue.

A very basic site with a clear vision can be completed within two weeks, workload permitting. However, I understand the creative process; some projects are more complex and naturally require a longer time frame.

Also, I look at long-term projects as a prime opportunity for strong collaboration and a great working relationship.

What is copywriting?

Copywriting is the creation of written content (or copy) for use on a website. It can be good (clear, short, relevant to the site) or bad (vague, unnecessarily long, off-topic and full of grammatical errors).

What we do is proofread, and if necessary revise client-provided copy to make sure it falls under the "good" category.

What is keyword metatagging?

Keyword metatagging involves embedding keywords that are relevant to your site directly into the pictures prior to uploading them to your site. For example, if your site was about exotic cars, some keywords might be: "Ferrari", "Exotic Cars", "Luxury", along with things like your email address and domain name. This is invisible to the viewer, but from an SEO perspective, Google picks up on all of those keywords which over time will push your site higher in search ranking.

What is Google's Webmaster Console?

The Google Webmaster Console is a host of free tools that allow anyone (not just web designers and developers) to monitor a website's search performance. Without using these or similar tools, you're at the mercy of Google's schedule as to when your site is scanned for content. Rather than waiting weeks or months for that to happen--especially if your website is brand new--it's better to force the scans as your site is updated.
